teacher appreciation week let down

Tuesday, May 17, 2011 | | 5 comments
last week was our teacher appreciation week.
you know the deal-gifts and supplies for the teacher.
and when i think of that they put up with
(meaning 25 kids who are just like mine for 7 hours a day),
they deserve it!
we had one teacher who not only didn't get her door decorated by the room mom,
not have a list of her favorite things sent home so kids could bring in all kinds of lovely things, but...
who had a 15 yr old daughter go thru treatment for thyroid cancer!

I KNOW!

anyone of those would make me break down into tears!
and i didn't find out until friday
(as a copy aid, we stay in our own little copy room and have fun. we don't venture out much)!
i borrowed a camera from ms taylor (another teacher) and took a photo of each of her kids.
ms taylor then sent the photos to walgreens for 1 hr processing.
after my shift, i ran and picked them up and made her an adorable book of photos.
but really, this teachers week really sucked.
and a regular book of photos wouldn't do.
so i went to skiptomylou and found this...

sweet!
i put little embellishments on the pages and made it awesome!

well, that just isn't enough for a teacher who has a daughter battling cancer, is it?!
so i found out that this teacher loves coke (not diet, which is the official drink of lds women in utah), so i found this craft lunch box and my modge podge and...
I KNOWS!
i even punched a hole in a metal coca cola bottle top and hung it on the handle with all the ribbons.
and still that wasn't enough!
i had a glass bottle of coke, and decided to do one last thing
(that i of course didn't take a photo of!).
i tied a tag around it that said
'i'd like to teach the world to spell...'
needless to say, i'm amazing!

and it wasn't even one of my kids teachers!

ok-another reason why i love thrift stores!
both of these cast iron molds were in their boxes-
BRAND SPANKING NEW!

totally ok by me!
i am giving one to nate's teacher and one to his reading specialist.
with some muffin mixes
and wrapped all pretty like this...

who wouldnt want to get them?

ps-we are doing holiday postcards this year instead of cards, and i got 100 of them.
wtfreak?
so they are going to be note cards too this year!

teacher halloween gift

back in may, i made my friend, gram, some cute cards for mothers day.
they were so easy and just useful, i thought i'd make some for nate's teacher this year.
**you see, i have this 'thing' about giving teachers more candy. really, what adult needs more candy?**
nate says, 'my other teachers liked us, but ms. ames LOVES us!'. how could you not just adore a teacher like that?
i started with this fabric, it is a little grandma-y, but ms. ames is a grandma. she will like it.
then, i just did what i did before with the the underwonder and the sewing machine.
i even used a really really fancy stitch!

and here is the finished project! i got the envelopes at savers for 75 cents for the pack. so way thrifty too!

and before you think 'thrifty ba-you are just so on the ball with getting your teacher halloween gift done!', let me say that my kids go on break thursday and won't be back until the 2nd week in november. so i HAD to get it done now.
but you can still think i'm on the ball. i won't complain.

i cant thank them enough!

i love my kids' teachers. i have worked in both classrooms and i tell you there isnt enough money in the world to get me to be a teacher.
no way.
no how.
and there is no way i could ever thank them enough for all they do.
but here is my attempt.
i had this canvas bag from walmart that i got on clearance for $1. and some hawaiian fabric from the remenants. at the time, i didnt realize that it said 'toranto maple leafs' on it. and why would a hockey team need hawaiian print fabric?
weirdness...
i wanted to use hawaiian print for parkers teachers bag because she went to byu hawaii for her schooling.
i cut out some of the flowers and started to machine sew them on. that looked like poo.
i didnt even bother taking a photo.
i used some fabric glue and put glue on all the edges and slapped them to the bag.
this method worked TONS better.
i then filled it with fun summery stuff...a towel, water bottle, blow up beach ball, sun block.
of course, with year round school, her 'summer vacation' is only 3 weeks.
