vacation, all i ever wanted...

oh who doesnt? (im such a geek for 80s music)
we dont go on a ton of vacations, but we always have fun.
and i hate buying tons of crappy souviners.
but i love remembering.
so years ago i came up with this BRILLANT IDEA!
vacation jars.
let me tell you how easy and cheap these are to make.
(this is our stash of jars in the tv room)
all you need is a mason jar, a lid and a vacation.
and since you are already on vacation, you have one down already!
while on your vacation, pick up things here and there. we have put sand, squished pennies, empty crayon boxes from resturants (we needed to to take the crayons out to entertain our kids the rest of the vacation), ticket stubs...you get the idea.
ANYTHING! (this one is from our trip to sun valley idaho july 2009)
then put the loacation and date on the top.
that's it.
we have the jars lined up on the shelf in out living room. nate has brought them for 'v' day in school.  the teacher loved it (and if you are like me, i still need the teachers approval!). sometimes the kids just want to look at them (not opening the jars, just thru the glass) and talk about the trip and the memories.
when they do that, i feel like the worlds best mom.
easier than scrapbooking, super cheap to make and an amazing way to remember great family vacations!
makes you want to head out right now, doesnt it?
(this one is from our trip to atlanta georgia may 2008)

and the groschen goblins and v & co and extreme personal measures and remodelaholics and i am only one and twiced remembered and delicious ambiguity

That is a FANTASTIC IDEA!!! I love it! I'm not much for collecting souvenirs but his is such a great way to collect memorable things from a vacation and keep it nicely contained without the clutter! I linked this project under my "Inspirational Projects" list on my sidebar!

I LOVE this idea! I am always trying to incorporate things into scrapbooks from our vacations and it is HARD to fit some thing that I really want to keep in to them! Thanks for the idea!

I'm your new follwer from Follow Me Friday!

That really is quite brilliant! I do that for sand and rocks from beaches and parks, but yours is much more fun!

What a cool idea! I have gobs of junk I save from trips thinking I'll scrapbook them. (I've made 2 scrapbooks in 18 yrs so don't think that is happening.) I put stuff in brown envelopes but you can't see it. This is such a great idea!

This is such a great idea. I could even see taking a picture of each jar and turning it into a scrapbook page.

Really clever!

That is such a great idea! We don't do too much vacationing, but when we do it's definitely something that we want to remember. I never thought of this before!

That's a great idea. Kids can contribute and the treasures are limited in size.
